Jalianne Li - Choreographer
Jalianne Li is a multidisciplinary artist from Moncton, NB, Canada, with a focus in dance. She began training at a local dance studio as a teenager, but it wasn’t until after completing her BSc from Dalhousie University that she realized that dance and choreography were passions that she wanted to pursue as a career. She went on to study dance and movement at Trinity Laban in London, UK, and apprentice with Springs Dance Company.
During her time in London, Jalianne also created and performed work in London and The Netherlands through her company surFace Dance, premiering her very first piece at Resolution!2013. She collaborated with composers Tommaso Perego for surFace Dance projects and Salvo Nostrato on his LIVECT interactive art project. Upon returning to Canada, Jalianne has continued developing surFace Dance and has presented work at Perspective (Saint John, NB), Création Danse (Moncton, NB) and the Open Studio Series (Halifax, NS). She has also danced in pieces by Isabelle Boulanger, Sarah Johnson Power, Natalie Morin, Patricia Allison, Marie-Luce Quéverdo and Sylvia Kasparian. Jalianne is a dancer with Danse En L’Air, a stilt-walker with Circus Stella, has performed with Theatre New Brunswick and physical theatre company Satellite Théâtre. She also plays harp and brass on the side. Jalianne has been supported by artsnb, is the Dance Representative for the Acadian Association of Professional Artists of New Brunswick and was a finalist in the Dance category at the 2018 and 2020 Éloizes awards show. |
